Shan Kenner, Acoustic/Electric guitar:
Shan Kenner is a world class guitarist and the founder of Calle Flo'r. He has been astounding audiences with his musical ability since he turned professional at the age of fifteen. Shan's fiery, breathtaking performances and original compositions cover the musical spectrum: from jazz standards, bebop, brazilian, salsa, nouveau flamenco to more esoteric world beat and acid jazz, Shan does it all. His recent credits include:
-- Asian Jazz Tours '95/96 -- '96 release of acid jazz/free form Fat Bags CD on Dank Planet Records -- Co-author of Scales of the World instructional guitar book. -- Shared concert dates with Chick Corea, Eric Marianthal, Poncho Sanchez, Ronnie Laws, and Art of Sax. -- Opened for acts such as The Ink Spots and Barbara Morrison.
Luis "Chi-Chi" Ernesto:
Luis Ernesto is a rising star in the art of hand percussion. He has grown up listening and learning from the likes of Giovanni Hidalgo, Ritchie Flores, and Alex Acuna. Professional credits include: Spent 4 years as the percussionist for Venezuelan pop star Marta Ligia, has played with the Fiallos Ensemble, Imported Soul Sauce, Tambor Oriente, Cuba Son, Borinquen Dos, Louie Ray, Pedrino Vargas, Orlando Daisy, Tiburcio Fuentes, and other latin greats...Currently working with the Shan Kenner Ensemble, Jazz Junkies, and Calle Flo'r. He is also a private instructor in his spare time...
Fred Randolph, Acoustic/Electric bass: M.A., Musical Studies, Cal State Hayward.
Fred Randolph has studied at UC San Diego, UC Berkeley and Cal State Hayward with such talented musicians as composer Frank Larocca and bassists Carl Stanley, Brian Marcus and Kai Eckhardt. He is currently a busy freelance bassist, composer and teacher. In addition, he is a member of the acclaimed Full Spectrum Jazz orchestra whose recent CD "First Time Out" has received significant air play. He has participated in several important recording projects including the soundtrack to the documentary "Lifeline" which aired on KQED during the '98 holiday season. He has taught for the Piedmont school district and for the Hayward Lahonda music camp, and is also a member of the Diablo Symphony Orchestra...
David Alt, Saxophone:
David Alt holds a degree from the Manhattan School of Music Preparatory Division, as well as an SB in Math and Physics from MIT ('93). David studied with Charles Bruch at the Pierre Monteaux School for Conductors and Orchestra Musicians. While at MIT, David founded, directed, composed, and conducted music for both a jazz collective and a contemporary orchestra, with which he world-premiered two clarinet concerti. David also studied and performed in recital with Evan Ziporyn and in the Balanese Gamelan Galak Tika. Before moving to San Francisco, he was a regular on the Boston Jazz scene, with his Canonical Ensemble and as a member of the critically acclaimed Lydian People's Front, whose CD "Laundry For The Nineties" made Cadence Magazine's Editor's Choice in their 1997 Record Poll, along with the likes of Tim Berne, Art Blakey, Joe Henderson, Branford Marsalis, Loe Lovano, and Don Cherry. David is currently active performing and producing several Bay Area ensembles, including the Jazz quartet Alt Tal, the Latin/Funk band Alto Brio, The Shan Kenner Ensemble, and the salsa band Calle Flo'r...
Phil Thompson, Drums:
Phil Thompson has been a professional drummer for the past 20 years. He is broadly experienced with many types of music, including: jazz, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, Caribbean, rock, etc. He has studied privately with some of the top drummers in the country and has been teaching for the past 15 years. His professional credits include performances with the Pete Escovedo Orchestra, Ray Obiedo Group, One World Latin Band, Mark Murphy, and the Joyce Cooling Group. He has played in virtually all the top jazz festivals in Northern California and at such prestigious places as Davies' Symphony Hall, The San Francisco Opera House, Fillmore Auditorium, Yoshi's and Kimball's East.
Stan Ginn: Percussion
Stan Ginn has been performing professionally for twelve years in many different types of percussion including latin, african, east european, jazz, orchestral, steel drum, chamber music, rock, and folk music. In addition to holding a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, he has spent many years studying these and other styles on his own and with many teachers. Among others, he has performed and/or with Bailando Desnudo, Janet Pressley, the Bi-Okoto Drum and Dance Theater, Monk, the Northern Kentucky Symphony, The Cincinnati Composers Guild, the Quilombo Steel Band, the Bandandee-A Steel Band, the Europa Gypsy Trio, the Cincinnati Klezmer Project, Mike Helm, and the Fahrenheit Theater Company. He has also been very active as a teacher in many styles and settings.
